Taos Music on the Mesa Day Two Saturday
Rising Appalachia and Robert Randoph delivered the most dynamic, crowd-inspiring performances on the outdoor stage of the second day of Taos Music on the Mesa Saturday. Bringing Aftican instruments and percussion into their swirl of sister-voiced harmonies and danceable forward-looking lyrics, Rising Appalachia had the audience enthralled. Robert Randolph with his Family Band also blended genres and styles to stunning effect, turning his amazing pedal steel guitar virtuosity towards the music of Jimi Hendrix and The Band and his own fine originals This was jam band music at an utterly new level. Grace Askew also blended country and blues styles in a fiery mix, singing through a megaphone on some hip hop inflected numbers, and captivating the indoor stage audience, followed by The Giving Tree Band’s relentlessly joyful jams. And then there ware The Battlefield, Patrice Pike, Coral Creek, Kelly Mickwee, The Greyhounds and Last to Know. And flowing craft ales and fine pub grub. And lovely weather and a blazing Taos mesa sunset. What more could you ask for? Well, Sunday’s version of Music on the Mesa is coming up soon, and you just may get your wish. Enjoy!
